Job : Production Foreperson – Finishing

Job Summary

Reporting to the Printing Manager, the job exists to convert printed stock and develop the actual printed stock into the finished product of high quality according to the customer’s specifications.

Key Performance Areas

  • Production of the printing registers and forwarding them to the Printing Manager
  • Measuring machine efficiency and availability
  • Implementation of the production plan
  • Enforcing of quality control standards
  • Check quantities of the finished QPs before packaging
  • Allocation of stock to be used in the finishing of examination papers.
  • Identify the machine to be used in the finishing process i.e Machine loading
  • Cutting to final size, different products such as books, brochures, and letterheads
  • Reconcile finished QPs
  • Spoilage Control after all finishing processes are done
  • Maintaining reorder levels, advise Senior Manager on stocks to be reordered
  • Ensure availability of the right skills for the right job
  • Supervision of subordinates
  • Adherence of machine maintenance schedule and budget

Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills

  • Apprenticeship Training in Print Finishing and Converting
  • Class 1 Journeyperson an added advantage
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in Printing Finishing Environment
  • Knowledge of principles of Machine Printing

Required Competencies and Attributes

  • Supervising Skills
  • Ability to understand the job, make decisions, organise , plan and control
  • Ability to communicate

Job Vacancy : Production Foreperson – Printing

Job Summary

Reporting to the Printing Manager, the position exists to ensure that the work is done in a systematic way under maximum supervision, and that all resources are used at a cost effective manner.

Key Performance Areas

  • Production of the Printing registers and forwarding them to the Manager
  • Measuring machine efficiency and availability
  • Implementation of the production plan
  • Enforcing of quality control standards
  • Provide quantities of the QPs to be printed
  • Allocation of stock to be used in the printing of examination papers
  • Identify the machine to be used in the printing process reconcile printed QPs
  • Spoilage control during printing

Job Opening : Production Foreperson – Packaging

Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager – Packaging and Finishing, the position exists to ensure that all the necessary operational and quality checks on labeled question paper envelopes are verified prior to packaging

Key Performance Areas

  • To enable budgeting for consumables to be used for the session
  • Implementation of the production plan
  • To ensure that a test run print of packaging and dispatch documents is done prior to actual run
  • Provide quantities of the Question Papers to be printed
  • Allocation of stock to be used in the printing of examination papers
  • Identify the machine to be used in the printing process i.e machine loading
  • Adherence to process procedures
  • Reconcile packed Question Papers
  • Spoilage control during packaging of question papers
  • Maintaining re-order levels and advise Printing Manager on stock to be reordered
  • Ensure availability of the right skills for the right job
  • Supervision of subordinates
  • Adherence of machine maintenance schedule and budget

Education, Experience, Knowledge and skills

  • 5 O Level subject passes including Science, Mathematics and English
  • 2 A Level subjects passed will be a distinct advantage
  • Class 1 Journeyperson an added advantage
  • Certificate/Diploma
  • Minimum 3 years in Examinations Entries Department

Job Opening : Production Planner

Job Summary

Reporting to the Printing Manager, the position exists to coordinate workflow for one or multiple products and plan operations to ensure maximum performance and minimum delay

Key Performance Areas

  • Implementation of the production plan and ensuring that all products are timeously dispatched
  • Production of the printing plan and forwarding it to the Manager
  • Measuring machine efficiency and availability
  • Check quantities of QPs and informing the Manager Time needed to complete the jobs
  • Identify the machines to be used in the Printing & Finishing processes i.e Machine Loading
  • Ensuring that equipment and raw materials needed to cover production demand are available
  • Prepare and submit status and performance reports
  • Enforcing reconciliation of finished products
  • Working with Foremen to enforce spoilage control after all processes are done
  • Obtain output information (number of finished products, percentage of defective products, etc)
  • Maintaining re-order levels and advise Manager on stocks to be reordered
  • Schedule shifts according to production plan and delivery by communicating to the Manager
  • Assign workers and other staff to particular production operations
  • Monitor jobs to ensure they finish on time and within budget
  • Determine workforce, equipment and raw materials needed to cover production demand
  • Supervision of subordinates

Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills

  • Higher Diploma or Degree in Production Planning and Control/ Industrial Engineering
  • Minimum of 3 years in a printing and packaging environment and proven experience as a Production Planner

  • Excellent knowledge of production planning and quality control principles
  • Experience in MRP 11 (Manufacturing resource planning)

Vacancy : Safety, Health and Environment Officer

Job Summary

Reporting to the Printing Manager, the job exists to coordinate and execute Safety, Health and Environment Management programs as well as ensure strict observance and enforcement of the organisation’s safety standards and statutory requirements

Key Performance Areas

  • Assist in Carrying out inspections of workplaces and take necessary action to ensure compliance
  • Assist in responding to and investigating concerns/complaints from workers/employers and assist in taking appropriate action
  • Assist in investigating accidents or injuries that occur in the workplace
  • Assist in the establishment of workplace safety and health committees
  • Assist in the delivery of related educational programs and disseminate information of the public
  • Assist in carrying out industrial hygiene surveys and with preparation of various reports, documents and forms
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Printing Manager

Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills

  • Environmental Studies or Safety, Health and Environment or related Degree
  • Diploma in Health and Safety Management

Job : Quality Controller

Job Summary

Reporting to the Production Foreperson, the position exists to execute all major final product quality checks to ensure that they meet or exceed the customer’s expectations

Key Performance Areas

  • Ensure that satisfactory work has been done for the acquisition of new business thus increasing revenue generated by the Council
  • Fill in time sheets and registers that explain all activities done to ensure that time is utilised accordingly thus increasing productivity
  • Ensure that there are no mistakes in finished goods and products to avoid returns to the organisation; this will incur a financial loss to the company
  • Use customer signed proofs that provide a detailed outline of customer expectations in order to produce quality work that will lead to customer satisfaction
  • Check printed work to ensure that all customer specifications and requirements have been included
  • Ensure that the actual quality of work has been produced to ensure customer retention and repeated purchases by checking that the correct colour and sequence has been achieved and the printing quality produced
  • Identify training needs and recommend training interventions to address gaps

Job Post: Machine Operator – Braille/Transcriber

Job Summary

The position exists to transcribe a wide variety of instructional materials into Braille and large print and operating various Braille equipment including a Braillewrite, Braille Word Processor, Computer and related software

Key Performance Areas

  • Interpret Pictures, graphs, and charts
  • Prepare such items as raised line drawings, diagrams and charts to accompany text, test question papers and other materials
  • Coordinating with Foremen for materials to be transcribed and printed
  • Ensuring that equipment and raw materials need to print Braille are available
  • Prepare and submit status and performance reports
  • Ensuring that all products and goods are produced on time for distribution in a profitable manner
  • Enforcing reconciliation of Embossed products
  • Working with Foreman to enforce spoilage control after all processes are done
  • Obtain output information (number of Embossed products, percentage of defective products, etc
  • Maintaining reorder levels and advise foremen on stocks to be re-ordered
  • Monitor jobs to ensure they finish on time and within budget
  • Determine manpower, equipment and raw materials needed to cover Braille Products demand
  • Demonstrate attendance sufficient to complete the duties of the position required

Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills

  • Higher Diploma or Degree Qualification in Special needs (with specialisation in Visual Impairment)
  • Minimum of one year in a Braille or Embossing transcription environment
  • Teaching experience is an added advantage

Required Competencies and Attributes

  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Excellent knowledge of production planning and quality control principles
  • Computer software proficiency pertaining to Braille transcription and tactile graphics
  • Ability to operate a variety of specialised Braille equipment

Vacant Post : Stores Clerk

Job Summary

The position reports to Production Foreperson

Key Performance Areas

  • Maintain a well organised and orderly storefront that aligns with the company’s image
  • Ensure the stockroom is organised and orderly
  • Assist counting and recording inventory
  • Place stock designated storage areas
  • Remove items from stock to fill orders from authorised requisitions
  • Assist in keeping stockroom, warehouse and loading area in a clean and orderly condition
  • Assist in physical stock counts of material
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills

  • At least 2 A Level passes
  • Studying towards a Procurement Qualification

Vacancies : Forklift Driver

Job Summary

Reporting to the Production Foreperson, the purpose of job is to operate and manage forklift to load and unload materials and deliveries and move them to and from storage areas

Key Performance areas

  • Load and Offload Materials in and out vehicles
  • Move pallet-packed materials around the site or storage facility
  • Check if loads are secure
  • Optimise loads to ensure operational efficiency
  • Adhere to production schedules
  • Report shortages
  • Operate and managing technical equipment
  • Inspect for damages on Vehicles
  • Schedule vehicles for maintenance and repairs
  • Identify workplace safety hazards
  • Adhere to safety management stand

Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills

  • 5 O Level subjects passed including Mathematics and English
  • Valid Certificate in forklifting
  • 1 year experience in operating forklifts

Required Competencies and Attributes

  • Knowledge of warehouse health and safety requirements
  • Knowledge of industrial storage procedures
  • Ability to itemise and record stock for inventories
